The Challenge
-

-
Of Children aged 11 plus 32% are obese and 62% are overweight
There is a clear trend of increasingly unhealthy children due to poor life style decisions and sedentary lifestyles.
How can Local schools and education authorities help children create healthier habtits and increase their wellbeing?

The Journey
Understanding the current problem
We began by holding a kickoff workshop and visited each school to get a better understanding of the environment, facilities and scale of the problem.
Our IOT solution
We provide each child a fitness band and each school a hub point where all the step data is collated. Schools are able to easily view the data to identify and reward the pupils improvements and achievements on an individual and team basis.

Outcomes
Prototype IOT tracker
The product consists of a wrist band fitness tracker per child, which connects using Bluetooth to the iOS technology within the App and stores up to 14 days of data. It charges via any USB port and measures steps, heart rate, distance, active calories burnt.
Furthermore it has a built in stop watch, timer and settings for different physical activities such as walking, running and cycling.
A new direction for schools and families
The benefits on the children’s health, mental and physical wellbeing and even academic achievement have been widely reported the schools, parents and children themselves.
Teachers found the instant feedback data lead to positive action and the platform lent itself to cross curricular work and fun gamification.
